Veeam v7 – SureBackup Logging – Full vs Partial

Featured Image

Veeam users,

You may have noticed after upgrading from previous versions of Veeam Backup & Replication to the new, awesome version 7, your SureBackup email notification emails just got a lot “lighter.”  This is due to the logging flag begin changed from the previous setting of FULL to PARTIAL.  The difference is now in version 7, the audit trail with date/time stamps will only show warnings and/or errors.  Prior to version 7, this audit trail showed every action that was taken, such as “reconfiguring, starting virtual lab routing engine, running ping test, etc..”  To some, this depth of knowledge is extremely useful for audit purposes & historical records showing to what extent the virtual machines were tested & verified.

Although partial logging is now the default in version 7, it isn’t something a quick registry mod can’t fix.  Thanks to “foggy” from our Veeam internal forums for shedding light on this, the registry entry that needs to be added to enable FULL SureBackup notification logging is as follows:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\SureBackup
GenerateFullReport (REG_DWORD) {0, 1}
0 – reduced logging (default)
1 – full logging

So, the process is simple, navigate to the above location “HKLM\SOFTWARE\VeeaM\Veeam Backup and Replication.”  You will most likely not see the SureBackup key, so simply generate a new key called “SureBackup” & then create a new DWORD called “GenerateFullReport” with a value of “1”

This will change your Veeam installation to show the FULL audit trail complete with date/time stamps instead of the lightweight partial logging.
